You are welcome at either of our Sunday services held at 8am and 10am. The formal elements go for around one hour with refreshments served afterwards as people are welcome to stay and chat. Our hall is air conditioned with comfortable padded seating and accessible toilet facilities.
8am Sunday
This service uses the familiar liturgy and prayers from the Anglican Prayer Book (provided). The structured format of this service makes it accessible for those who are learning English and connects well with those who grew up reading the Prayer Book in church. You can expect a group of around 25 people.
10am Sunday
Our later service has around 80 people of all ages attending. Together we sing, pray and hear about the Christian life before separating so the Bible teaching can happen in age appropriate ways for children, youth and adults.
What to expect
What happens at a church service?
Hear from God: As we meet together, we want to listen to God speak to us, so the Bible is read aloud from the front. A speaker then spends some time exploring what has been read and how it applies to our lives.
Talk to God: We spend some time talking to God in prayer, which is led by someone out the front. Sometimes we pray all together from words on the screen (e.g. a confession of sin).
Sing together: Our songs remind us of who God is and what He has done for us. Christians have been singing together for generations in praise to God.
Build friendships: After each service morning tea is served in the hall. This is a chance to build friendships, talk with like minded people and ask any questions.
Other aspects: Some weeks we say a ‘creed’ together. This is a short statement which sums up the important things Christians believe. Some weeks we celebrate the Lord’s Supper (communion), which is about remembering Jesus’ death.
Who is welcome at our services?
The Oaks Anglican Church is a friendly and welcoming place that reflects Jesus’ love for all people. Everybody is welcome to come along.
If you have specific needs or concerns it is always best to get in touch beforehand so we are prepared to welcome you the best way possible.
If you are unwell we ask you to please stay at home and participate through the online service.
Will I have to say/do/give anything?
No. You are welcome to simply observe what takes place and participate only as much as you are comfortable with. We do not ask or expect our guests to donate money.
What should I wear to church?
There is no need to wear anything special for church. Regular casual wear is what most people will be in.
How long does church go for?
Our typical service goes for around one hour, with many staying on to chat with people and enjoy some morning tea. You’re free to stay as long as you like. There is also no problem leaving whenever you are ready.
What about children?
We love having children at all of our Sunday church services. They are always welcome, even when they are making noise!
Our 10am service is particularly popular with families, so we have three separate teaching programs and locations for children during the Bible talk. The groups are known as the Acorns (ages 0-3), Sprouts (grades preK-4) and Shrubs (grades 4-7).
A Parents’ Room is also available in the church hall where our services are held. It is equipped with speakers and glass wall so you don’t miss out on the service. There are also plenty of toys and books for the little ones to play with.
Plan a visit
You are welcome to just arrive on the day, but you might like to let us know you are coming so we can answer any questions or concerns and we can welcome you the best way possible.
